Our Mission
Benjamin Franklin once said, “Change is the only constant in life.” As each of us reflect upon the past two years, I think we could all agree that “change” would have to be the primary description of our lives. While many of the changes we have experienced have not been what we would have hoped for, there has been an incredibly positive change that has also happened right here in South Central Kentucky.
Whether through the construction of the Shanti Niketan Hospice Home, through the creation of our Car Seat Program for families in need, or through placing lifesaving equipment in the hands of local law enforcement agencies, the T.J. Community Mission Foundation is becoming a force for positive change in this region. Thank you for being a part of that change!
SHANTI NIKETAN HOSPICE HOME
The T.J. Community Mission Foundation board members are pleased to announce the opening of the Shanti Niketan Hospice Home earlier this year. The 10,400 square foot facility is located at 1020 Glenview Drive and includes eight inpatient rooms with the capacity to expand to 12 rooms if needed, kitchen and living spaces, private areas for families and guests along with access to a private patio. The Hospice Home is designed to provide comfort, counseling, and support to a patient with life-limiting illnesses and their family.
CAR SEAT PROGRAM
The T.J. Community Mission Foundation is partnering with the Women and Newborn Care Department at T.J. Samson Community Hospital to support families in need in this region. Through a $4,500 grant from the Foundation, 30 car seats have been purchased for families in need to ensure that every child delivered at T.J. Samson Community Hospital will have a safe and up-to-date car seat that will last from that first trip home well into the child’s toddler years.
Each year hundreds of families from this region choose to deliver their babies at T.J. Samson Community Hospital, but not all of them have access to a car seat. This program is just another way that the T.J. Community Mission Foundation can support the T.J. Team as they continue to go above and beyond in terms of the service provided to those in our care.
HEALTHCARE HEROES SERENITY GARDEN
After the incredible above and beyond efforts witnessed throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and in addressing the emotional well being of regional medical staff, the T.J. Community Mission Foundation has supported and is near completion of a serenity garden. This interior courtyard, part of T.J. Samson Community Hospital on N. Race Street in Glasgow, is now transformed into a place of peace and relaxation for hospital staff and patients. It’s important to provide yourself a place to de-stress and to recharge in the midst of the craziness within the world of healthcare. When this project is completed, the T.J. Community Mission Foundation hopes it serves as the respite it has been designed for.
STOP THE BLEED KIT CAMPAIGN
Through a gift from the T.J. Community Mission Foundation, two local law enforcement agencies have received life-saving equipment and hands-on training to use when responding to potentially traumatic situations where a higher level of immediate healthcare is required. Both the Columbia Police Department and the Adair County Sheriff’s office received “Stop the Bleed” kits, tourniquets, and instruction for each of their officers.
The contents of the Stop the Bleed kits mirror those of the Tactical Combat Casualty Care program, and the training each officer receives will help them to become experts in the use of these pieces of equipment in critical situations.
The future is bright for the T.J. Community Mission Foundation, but we can’t do it without YOU, our community.
